For smalsa and all other ‘Prince and the Showgirl’ fans :)
Ever since I got involved in the entire Bulma x Vegeta fandom some very many years ago now, I’ve always had a special place for ‘The prince and the Showgirl' by Kuri. It was the first doujinshi I ever read but there was only 12 pages ever available so of course I became obsessed with finding the rest of the pages. I searched for a long time and talked to a lot of people about it, and I remember one girl I talked to (who was just as obsessed as me about it) said she'd do anything to get it, to any cost.
Some years later I got to know B Chan, and she showed me the second part of this book, which is the prequel to this book, and it only served to get me more interested and anxious to find it. I also started buying books on my own, but never did I come across ‘The Prince and the Showgirl’.
Until last year. I found it on a Japanese bidding site and I went through the roof with excitement. It was the toughest battle in my fandom life and I don’t even want to mention what the price tag said in the end. But the girl I spoke to so many years ago was right, I did anything to get my hands on it, no matter the cost.
So my fellow fans, was it worth the wait? Yes and no!
Yes, becuase it was a great satisfaction to finally have the book in my possession after so many years and be able to read the remaining pages.
But, since I don’t know how to read japanese I have no idea what they are saying, which in this book would have been really neccessary becuase of what is going on in the pictures. It’s practically a book about Vegeta torturing, murdering and harming Bulma in any way he can, he even rapes her at one point. And this from an artist (Kuri) who has some of the lovliest and romantic art ever. I have to say I was slightly disapointed. I know in the first pages of the translated part, Vegeta says she betrayed him, but to what extend does she deserve this kind of treatment?
I suppose I won’t be completly satisfied until I can read both books translated and understand the story.
Here’s a link to the first pages of this book —> Admira, it’s even translated in English :)
Here’s a link to book nr. 2 —> Bchan, which is the prequel to this story, and it’s the full book.
Oh my word Lollidrella, now that I’ve calmed down it’s time to reblog!!
I can’t believe you’ve posted this, I just want to hug you! I hope people everywhere realise how wonderful you are for sharing this with us, you didn’t have to, in fact a part of me didn’t want you to as I know how long it took you to track this down and how much it cost. There’s always a worry with the net and people taking things that don’t belong to them, but hey we’ll believe in the goodness of people right! Don’t you dare be sorry for placing your watermark on this, you didn’t have to share it and you have every right to be possessive!
I remember reading this for the first time on Adimra’s website and just thinking, why isn’t there more, back then I had no idea her site wasn’t active or that there wouldn’t be more. I just assumed there would be more to come, but when I came to the realisation that this was it, I was gutted, I googled it and found nothing and well now and then I’ve looked into it and just nothing, I wish I read Japanese life would be easier. Then last month after the conversation we had, I was shocked to find out it’s value and how rare it really is, gosh, Kuri has no idea how coveted this is and how much people just want to know the plot and how it ends.
I have to ask myself if I’m a bit twisted and weird for wanting to know more, even though I know it’s an angst and tragedy. I want to know the backstory of the characters, what happened, why Vegeta’s after her and so many other things…I need a fan fiction on this damn it or at least clarification KURI you hear me, I’ll never not think about this, I need to know! We definitely need to find someone who speaks Japanese to translate it into english or swedish and then you can translate it into English, hell any other language that someone knows so they can then translate it into English!
But, for know I guess we can look at the drawings, admire them and try to make up our own dialogue and plot about what happened.
Ahhh, The Prince and the Showgirl means a lot to me too, it was also my gateway into doujinshi’s, bless Adimra and her site! And whilst I’ve read a few, this one will forever stand out for me, thank-you so much for adding another part of the story and for actually clarifying the plot, I just thought she had betrayed him on some level and had no idea of the horrors Vegeta has committed to her! Thank-you for sharing this once again, I know how much selflessness on your part this took and trust me, most people wouldn’t have! I love you dude, so much! So much love coming your way, you glorious wonderful human being, it’s coming in buckets!
I think I recieved your hug and all your love when I read your comment :) It feels good knowing you appreciate it, since I believe there are actually very few who knows about this and feel like us about it!
Yes it was in fact very expensive, but somehow it was worth all that money to satisfy my need for this book. I think when you read on the ‘buy’ page, it says it’s like 350 yen, just like all of her other books, which is far from the price I paid for them. You’re right, she really didn’t know her own value back then. But you do know she is the artist Ai to youkobou no hibi now right?
Actually I think the first book, which is on B chan’s side, has more details in what happened between them in the past, and why he is after killing her. And in fact the first book is also the end, big spoiler, they kiss and make up in the end, despite all the angst!
